Staff tiers
In short
A staff tier gives a role only the Bastion commands you tick. Helpers can warn and time out. Senior staff can also ban. Tiers are free and you can have up to 10.
What it does
A moderator role gets every moderation command at once. That's too much for a trial moderator.
A staff tier is a named group of roles with a list of ticks. The roles can use the commands you ticked and nothing else.
Turn it on
Open Moderation in the dashboard
You must be the server owner or a trusted person. Other admins can see tiers but not change them.
Find Staff tiers
Add a tier and give it a name, such as Helpers. Up to 32 characters: letters, numbers and spaces.
Pick the roles
Up to 10 roles for each tier.
Tick what they can do
Leave everything else unticked.
Press Save
The bot picks up the change on its own. Nobody needs to run a command.
CarefulTake the role off your Moderators list on the People page first. A moderator role gets every command, whatever its tier says.
What you can tick

| Lock a single channel | /lockdown channel. Locking the whole server still needs the owner, a trusted person or an Administrator. Discord hides /lockdown from people without Manage Server, so also allow the role on that command in Discord, under Server Settings, Integrations, Bastion. |
| Write and read staff notes | /note add, /note list, and /note edit and /note delete for their own notes. |
| Look up cases | /case view, /cases and /info. |
| Edit, close and reopen cases | /case edit, /case close, /case reopen and /warnings clear. Never for a case about themselves, or one Bastion, the owner or a trusted person filed. |
| Softban | /softban. It counts towards the kick limit. |
| Clean nicknames | /nick clean and the right-click Clean nickname. |
| Decide appeals | The Approve and Deny buttons on an appeal in your staff channel. |

Only what's ticked counts. Ticking Ban doesn't include Kick.

Someone holding two tiers can do what either one allows.
What a tier doesn't change
- Role order. A helper can only act on members whose top role is below their own.
- Limits on moderators. Bans, kicks and quarantines still count against whoever ran them. See moderation.
- Who can undo what. A tier member can't lift a ban or timeout that Bastion, the owner or a trusted person placed.
- Dashboard access. Tiers are for commands in Discord. They don't open the dashboard.
- Discord's own permissions. Someone with Ban Members in Discord can still use
/ban, tier or no tier.
Who can use a command
Bastion says yes if any one of these is true:
- They're the server owner or a trusted person.
- They have Administrator.
- They have the Discord permission that matches the command, such as Kick Members for
/kick. - They hold a moderator role. That covers every tick except Lock a single channel.
- They hold a role in a tier that has the command ticked.
Alerts when a tier gains power
Staff tiers hand out Bastion's powers, so Bastion watches them. When a tier is added, gets a new tick or is given to more roles, it posts a Protection was weakened alert in your security log channel and messages the owner. Removing a tier or a tick raises no alert.
During panic mode, moderation commands can be paused for everyone except the owner and trusted people. That includes tier members.
My helper can still ban.
They have another way in. Check they don't hold a moderator role, Administrator, or Discord's own Ban Members permission.
The Staff tiers section is greyed out.
Only the server owner and trusted people can change tiers. Other admins can change the rest of the Moderation page.
Do I need tiers?
Not if all your staff should have every command. Use moderator roles on the People page.
How many tiers can I have?
10, with up to 10 roles in each.
Is this Pro?
No. Staff tiers are free.
