Right-click actions

In short

Right-click a member, choose Apps, then Warn, Timeout, Kick, Ban or Quarantine. A short form opens first, so a slip of the mouse never bans anyone. The rules and limits are the same as for the slash commands.

The five member actions

ActionWhat it doesSame as
WarnGives the member a formal warning. Enough warnings trigger your warn steps./warn
TimeoutStops the member talking for the time you type. The form starts at 1 hour./timeout
KickRemoves the member. They can rejoin with an invite./kick
BanRemoves the person and stops them rejoining. None of their messages are deleted./ban
QuarantineTakes away all their roles until you undo it. See quarantine./quarantine add

How to open them

On a computer

  1. Right-click the member

Their name in chat, their avatar or their entry in the member list all work.

  2. Choose Apps

Bastion's actions are inside the Apps submenu, not in the main list.

  3. Pick the action

Warn, Timeout, Kick, Ban or Quarantine.

  4. Fill in the form and press Submit

    Nothing happens until you do.

On a phone

  1. Open the member's profile

    Tap their name or avatar.

  2. Tap Apps

    Then pick the action.

  3. Fill in the form and send it

    Nothing happens until you do.

The form that opens first

Every action opens a short form before anything is done. Close the form and nothing happens.

BoxWhat to typeNeeded
ReasonWhy you're doing this, up to 300 characters. It's saved on the case and included in the message to the member. Left empty on anything but a warning, the case says No reason given.Yes for Warn. No for the others
How longTimeout only. Write it like 10m, 2h or 7d. It starts filled in with 1h. Discord allows up to 28 days.Yes

If you aren't allowed to use the action, or the member ranks too high for you, Bastion tells you straight away and the form never opens. Everything is checked again when you submit.

A warning must say why, the same as /warn. If the reason is missing, Bastion replies A warning needs a reason and nothing is saved.

TipAlways give a reason, even where the form lets you skip it. The case is the only record of why.

Check for alts

Right-click any message, choose Apps, then Check for alts. Bastion privately shows you who else verified from the same device or connection as the person who wrote it. It's the same as /alts. It sits on messages because all five right-click slots on a person are taken. See web check, alts and VPNs.

Delete newer messages

This one is on messages, not members. It clears everything that was sent after a message you pick. Useful when a spammer has just flooded a channel.

  1. Find the last message you want to keep

Right-click it. On a phone, press and hold it.

  2. Choose Apps, then Delete newer messages

Bastion counts what would be deleted and tells you privately. Nothing is deleted yet.

  3. Press the red Delete button

The button says how many messages will go. This can't be undone.

  • The message you chose is kept. So are pinned messages.
  • It deletes at most 100 messages in one go, starting with the ones closest to the message you chose.
  • Messages more than 14 days old are skipped. Discord doesn't let bots bulk delete them.
  • It counts as one use of /purge, which each moderator can run 5 times a minute.
  • It's saved as a case, like a purge.

You need a moderator role, or Manage Messages in that channel. Bastion needs Manage Messages and Read Message History there.

Same rules as the slash commands

A right-click action works exactly like its slash command. Nothing is looser and nothing is stricter.

ActionWho can use it
Warn, TimeoutModerators, or anyone with Timeout Members.
KickModerators, or anyone with Kick Members.
BanModerators, or anyone with Ban Members.
QuarantineModerators, or anyone with Manage Roles.
Delete newer messagesModerators, or anyone with Manage Messages in that channel.
Check for altsAnyone who can use /kick. Pro, with second account detection on.

Moderators means the owner, trusted people, anyone with Administrator and anyone holding one of your moderator roles. See moderation.

  • Rank. You can only act on a member whose top role is below your own, and below Bastion's. Nobody can act on the owner, on Bastion or on themselves.
  • Limits. Ban counts towards the moderator's ban limit. Kick and Quarantine count towards the kick limit. Each limit has a number for a minute and a number for an hour. Reaching any of them refuses the action and applies your Anti-Nuke punishment to the moderator.
  • Timeouts. Timeout doesn't count towards the kick limit and never gets a moderator punished. Each moderator can time out 10 people a minute, with no hourly cap. Over that the timeout is refused with a message and nothing else happens. The owner and trusted people aren't limited.
  • Cases. Every action is saved as a numbered case and posted in your Moderator actions log.
  • Messages to the member. The member gets the same private message as with the slash command, if Tell people when they are punished is on.
  • Warn steps. A right-click warning counts towards your warn steps like any other.

The actions show up in the Apps menu for every member, the same way moderation slash commands show in everyone's command list. Bastion checks who you are when you pick one and refuses privately if you aren't allowed.

What the slash commands can do that these can't

  • /ban can delete the person's messages from the last 0 to 7 days with delete_days. The right-click Ban deletes none.
  • /purge can delete one person's messages only, and lets you choose the number.
  • Undoing things is done with commands: /unban, /untimeout and /quarantine remove. A moderator can't undo a ban or timeout that Bastion, the owner or a trusted person placed.

Every command is on the command list.

I can't see Apps when I right-click.

Bastion's commands haven't reached your Discord yet. After Bastion is added or updated they can take a few minutes. Restart Discord and try again. See troubleshooting.

I see the actions but I'm just a member.

Everyone sees them. Bastion refuses privately when someone without the right role or permission picks one.

It says that person is not in this server.

Warn, Timeout, Kick and Quarantine only work on current members. Ban also works on someone who has left, for example from one of their old messages.

Why can't I warn a bot?

A warning is for people. Kick or ban a bot instead. Quarantine on a bot kicks it.

It says I have reached this server's limit.

You ran too many kicks or quarantines, or too many bans, in one minute or in one hour. The message says which. See Limits on moderators on the moderation page.

It says I have timed out 10 people in the last minute.

That's the timeout limit. The timeout was refused and nothing else happened. Wait a minute and try again.

Warn says a warning needs a reason.

Type a reason in the form. Warnings always need one, from the right-click menu and from /warn.

Is there a right-click for members to use?

Yes, one. Any member can right-click a message and choose Report to moderators. See member reports.

Can I add my own right-click actions?

No. Discord allows five on a member and five on a message for each bot, and these are Bastion's.
