Quarantine
In short
Quarantine takes away all of a member's roles and gives them one role that can see nothing. Bastion saves the old roles, so /quarantine remove puts everything back. It's a pause button, not a ban.
What quarantine is
Quarantine is a way to stop someone instantly without throwing them out. The member stays in the server but loses every role, and with them every power. In their place they get a single role, Quarantined, which can't see any channel.
Bastion writes down which roles they had. When you release them, they get those roles back.
Why not just ban
- It's reversible. If Bastion or a moderator got it wrong, one command undoes it. An unbanned member has to be invited back and given every role again by hand.
- It's just as fast. The moment the roles are gone, so are the permissions. The attack stops.
- You get time to look. A hacked admin is often a real friend whose account was stolen. Quarantine freezes the account while you find out.
When Bastion uses it
- Anti-Nuke quarantines anyone who goes over a limit. This is the default punishment.
- Anti-Nuke also quarantines anyone who hands out a dangerous permission, runs a mass prune or changes your custom invite link.
- Bots are the exception. A bot's own role can't be removed, so Bastion kicks a bot instead of quarantining it.
- A moderator can do it by hand with
/quarantine add.
Using it yourself
Quarantine someone
Run
/quarantine add, choose the member and give a reason. Their roles are saved and removed.Look into it
Check your logs and the member's history with
/cases.Release or remove them
Run
/quarantine removeto give the roles back. Or use/kickor/banif they should go.
Both actions are saved as a numbered case. See moderation.
Keeping people quarantined
Quarantine is only useful if it sticks. An attacker with two accounts could quarantine-proof themselves: the second account takes the Quarantined role off the first, or hands its roles back.
The setting Keep quarantined people quarantined stops that. It's on by default and lives on the Anti-Nuke page under Extra protection. If someone changes a quarantined member's roles by hand, Bastion:
- Puts the member straight back in quarantine.
- Gives whoever did it your Anti-Nuke punishment. By default that means they're quarantined too.
- Posts a report in your log channel naming both people.
Two things set it off: taking the Quarantined role off the member, or giving them any other role. Taking some other role away frees nobody, so it's ignored.
Who can release someone
- Anyone allowed to use
/quarantine remove. A release through Bastion is always fine, because Bastion gives the saved roles back properly. - The server owner and trusted people, by hand or by command.
- Anyone you add under Who can release quarantined people. Open Anti-Nuke, then Advanced settings, and paste their user ID under Extra user IDs. Up to 10 people.
Keep quarantined people quarantined only works while Anti-Nuke is on. Switching it off raises a Protection was weakened alert.
The Quarantined role
/setup creates the role with no permissions, puts it just under Bastion's own role and hides every channel from it. You don't need to build it yourself.
- Don't give the Quarantined role any permissions.
- Don't delete it. If it goes missing, Bastion makes a new one the next time it needs it, or when you run
/setup. - Channels you add later are hidden from it automatically.
- Keep it below Bastion's role. Bastion can't hand out a role that sits above its own.
TipWant quarantined members to be able to appeal? Make one channel that only the Quarantined role and your staff can see.
What quarantine can't do
- It can't be used on the server owner or on trusted people. Bastion won't touch them, even if a moderator asks.
- It can't be used on anyone whose top role is above Bastion's. When Bastion tries and fails, it posts a warning in your log and messages the owner. Keep Bastion at the top. See the setup guide.
- It can't remove roles that Discord manages, such as the Server Booster role. Those stay on the member.
A member says they can't see any channels.
They're probably quarantined. Run /cases on them to see why, then /quarantine remove if it was a mistake.
I released someone and a role is missing.
Bastion can only return roles that still exist and that sit below its own role. It tells you how many it couldn't return. Add those by hand.
Can a quarantined member dodge it by leaving and rejoining?
No. Bastion keeps the record, gives them the Quarantined role again when they rejoin and notes it in your log. Their old roles only come back when you release them.
I took the Quarantined role off someone and got quarantined myself.
Keep quarantined people quarantined is on, and you aren't the owner, a trusted person or on the release list. Ask the owner to run /quarantine remove on you. Next time use /quarantine remove on the member.
Does quarantine run out on its own?
No. It lasts until someone runs /quarantine remove.
