The same message from many accounts
In short
When several different accounts post near enough the same message within a minute, Bastion deletes the copies, adds heat to the accounts that repeated it and alerts you. It's free and on by default.
What it catches
In a raid, each account often posts the advert once. No single account is spamming, so heat alone doesn't see it. This check compares messages across accounts, in every channel of the server.
How many accounts it takes
| The message has | Bastion acts at |
|---|---|
| A link, a server invite or a mention | 3 different accounts |
| Plain text only | 5 different accounts |
Raid adverts nearly always carry a link, an invite or a ping, so those are acted on sooner. If any one copy has one, the whole run is judged by the lower number.
What never counts
- Messages shorter than 20 characters, so replies like lol, gg or thanks are never compared.
- Messages that are only emoji or a sticker.
- Messages from staff, trusted people, bots, and roles or channels Automod ignores.
- Fewer than three different accounts. Two friends saying the same thing is fine.
- Plain text from fewer than five different accounts. A few members saying good morning, or quoting the same joke, is fine.
What Bastion does
- Deletes the copies.
- Adds heat to each account that repeated the message. The account that posted it first gets none, so copying someone can't get them punished.
- Posts one alert in your Automod log channel.
An account that goes over the heat limit this way gets the usual Automod timeout.
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Catch copied messages | Switches it on or off. | On |
| Heat added to each copier | 0 to 300. 0 only deletes and alerts. | 60 |
Find both under Automod, Advanced settings. Bastion remembers at most the last 120 messages per server for one minute, and only in memory. Nothing is saved.
